South Africa Bids for the 2036 Olympics

01. South Africa's Bid for the 2036 Olympics

South Africa is one of the seven countries invited to submit its proposal to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. This selection process is still in the preliminary phase, and the final choice of the host country will be made in 2029.

02. Competing Countries

In addition to South Africa, the other countries presenting their bids are:

• Qatar
• India
• Hungary
• Turkey
• Germany
• South Korea

These countries will have the opportunity to defend their proposals before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) commission next November.

03. Advantages of the South African Project

The project proposed by South Africa plans to distribute the events across several cities, including Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban. This could help showcase the country and its infrastructure, although this idea is still hypothetical.

04. A Historic Challenge for Africa

If South Africa's bid is successful, it would be the first time an African country hosts the Summer Olympics. South Africa will need to demonstrate that it has the logistics, infrastructure, and public support necessary to organize such a large-scale event.

The IOC plans to evaluate the proposals by March 2027 and engage in in-depth discussions with some candidates starting in December 2028. The final vote to designate the host country will take place in 2029.

05. Conclusion

South Africa's bid for the 2036 Olympics marks an important milestone for the African continent.
